Hydrangea.

How can this be?

I have one Hydrangea shrub in the front garden, yet there are three different colours of flowers on it.

The shrub gets no attention what so ever (Only from visitors who admire it) It gets the odd rain shower on it, has never been fed and has a prune when I get tired of looking at the brownish coloured flowers during winter.
It gets very little sun, as it faces South-east.

I marvel at it's beauty. The colours are
just fabulous.

The little picture at the bottom is of another
Hydrangea I have in the back garden.
This one gets fed with Rose food 3-4 times
a year. And always keeps the same colour,
faces north-east and gets the morning sun only.

Maybe the colour of the flowers change as they age but this gives the impression of the flowers being different colours!

As the blooms age they most likely get darker. This makes your bush even more beautiful. Hydrangeas are one of my favorites and yours is gorgeous.

P.G. and H.H.G. These blooms are all on the same shrub, flower heads around two weeks old, each of them. Yes, I go along with the theory, the older the flower, they change colour. But, these are the same age!!!!!!! Very odd indeed.
Thank you for visiting my little blog P.G. and H.H.G.

Hi Sal, I have an east facing hydrangea like yours. As I was watering it tonight I noticed that I have 3 colours too. Purple faces the sunrise, blue at midday when the sun would be overhead and pink on the afternoon sun side where it goes into the shade about 4pm. Anything similar on yours? :) Jen x
